Born in 1974 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Victor Vasilev moved to Israel with his family at the age of 15. He later studied architecture at Politecnico di Milano and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. In 2004, he established his own studio in Milan, exploring the intersection of architecture, interiors, and product design.
“I never set out to be a designer, I studied architecture, not furniture. But living in Milan changed everything,” he recalls. Surrounded by influential designers and manufacturers, Vasilev gradually found his place in the design world.
A defining moment came in 2011 with Bukva, a bookshelf designed for Living Divani and his first major production project. His work has since received international recognition, including the Good Design Award and German Design Award. Inspired by the understated elegance of Italian designer Vico Magistretti, Vasilev believes in stripping away the unnecessary to reveal the true character of an object.
For him, simplicity is more than a visual choice. It is a way of bringing materials, function, and everyday life into balance.
Victor Vasilev is featured in Creative Balkans: Contemporary Furniture Design, a book exploring contemporary furniture design across the Balkans.
