Country: Bulgaria
Awards: Bulgarian Furniture of the Year, 2015 Imagine Outlet Furniture Design Contest, 2010
Born in 1970 in Novi Pazar, Bulgaria, Velichko Velikov is a multidisciplinary designer whose work spans product design, branding, interiors, education, and even robotics. He holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Design from the University of Ruse.
His fascination with furniture began in 2003, after winning an international competition for photorealistic visualization and chair design. Since then, chairs have become a particular passion, leading to projects such as Lastika, created in collaboration with the Italian brand Lago. From T-shirts and websites to furniture and machines, Velikov’s creative curiosity knows few boundaries. His work has been exhibited at major European furniture fairs in London, Paris, Milan, and Cologne.
Beyond his own practice, Velikov is dedicated to supporting the next generation of Bulgarian designers. He founded Cherga, a design group that brought young Bulgarian talent to SaloneSatellite in Milan in 2017. He is also a long-standing mentor at Rabotilnitsa, an annual workshop by the Black Sea where emerging designers collaborate with established professionals and manufacturers.
The work of Velichko is featured in Creative Balkans: Contemporary Furniture Design, a book dedicated to contemporary furniture design from the region.

“Good design is the ability to unite form and function in technologically and aesthetically clean solutions.”

Rope Chair
Producer: GS Malmgren Interiors
Year of production: 2018
Provided for the exhibition by: GS Malmgren Interiors
Dimensions: 58 X 55 X 78 сm
Rope’s gently twisting metal tubes evoke the lightness and flowing lines of a twisted rope. The minimal frame contrasts with a thin seat, conceived in plywood finished with linoleum or natural leather, or in coloured HPL. Together, these materials give the chair a clear, graphic silhouette.
