RÜYA AKYOL, TÜRKİYE

Born in 1991 in Istanbul, Türkiye, Rüya Akyol studied Industrial Design at Istanbul Technical University before earning a Master’s degree at Domus Academy in Milan. Her creative journey took her through Milan and Paris, eventually leading her to establish Rüya Akyol Studio.

“I was drawn to furniture design because of its unique place between function, sculpture, and daily life,” she explains. For Akyol, furniture is more than something we use – it is a way to tell stories through form and material.

Throughout her career, she has worked alongside renowned designers Claudio Bellini andPhilippe Starck, while drawing inspiration from Charlotte Perriand’s ability to combine elegance with everyday functionality.

Her work has received international recognition, including the German Design Award, Good Design Award, and the title of Young Designer of the Year at the EDIDA Awards.

Yet one of her proudest achievements is presenting an independently developed collection at SaloneSatellite during Milan Design Week, created directly with artisans and without the backing of an established brand.

For Akyol, design is a continuous dialogue between creativity, craftsmanship, and human experience, bringing emotion and meaning into the objects we live with.

Oversized wooden legs give the sofa’s soft, rounded body an unusually bold footing. Curved sides make the upholstered volume appear to lift away from its supports, playing with the perception of weight. Available in oak or walnut, the legs become a defining part of the composition rather than a detail hidden beneath it.
